Deborah Wickins received her MBA from the University of Victoria, as a member of the second cohort that began in 1993. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Alberta.
Upon graduation from her MBA, Deborah served as MBA Program Coordinator for the UVic Faculty of Business for three years. Thereafter, Deborah spent five years at Royal Roads University as Executive Director of the MBA Program, designing and launching the program and delivering the program to all cohorts between 1999 and 2003. After taking time away from RRU to launch her consulting practice, she then returned to RRU in 2005-2007 to develop and launch the BA and MA programs in International Hotel Management. At RRU, Deborah has taught in the BCom, MBA and BA in International Hotel Management programs, in both face to face and online delivery modes. At UVic, she has taught in the BCom, MGB and MBA programs.
Deborah has had the opportunity to develop and deliver MBA programming in Guadalajara, Mexico; Grenoble, France; and in Tehran, Iran. She also designed and delivered the MA in International Hotel Management residency that took place in the fall of 2007 in Dubai, UAE. She has traveled to more than a dozen countries in five continents and loves every aspect of international travel and learning.
In her consulting practice, Deborah undertakes a variety of projects for a wide range of clients. Business planning, customer service programming, and degree program development have been some of the projects she has worked on recently. As a writer and editor, Deborah has also published case studies and journal articles in the field of tourism management and recently did a comprehensive rewrite of a business strategy text to relate it specifically to the tourism sector.
In her spare time, Deborah is passionate about music, travel, languages (she has studied Mandarin, French, Italian, and a tiny bit of both Spanish and Japanese), reading, and wine. She is currently studying in her final level of part time studies to attain certification as a Sommelier through the International Sommelier Guild.
