Dr. Dastmalchian is Professor and former Dean of the Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria, Canada. He first joined the faculty in 1991 as director of MBA programs. Ali is an active researcher, and has consulted and taught in a number of countries in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. His main research and teaching interests are in the areas of organizational design and flexibility, organizational climate and culture, management of change, executive leadership, global leadership and cross-cultural management and his work has been published widely.
He has an undergraduate degree in economics and political science from the National University of Iran. He also has a masters of science in management and technology and a PhD in organizational analysis both from the Cardiff Business School at the University of Wales.
Prior to his academic life, Ali had a number of years of managerial experience in sales and international business in different industries in the Middle East and Europe. Ali had designed and participated in executive development programs throughout Asia and the Middle East. He had taught at a number of business schools including Cardiff Business School (Wales), Durham University's Business School (England), University of Alberta's Faculty of Business, Athabasca University, the University of Saskatchewan's College of Commerce, the University of Lethbridge's Faculty of Management, Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Rouen Business School (France), and Sun Yat Sen University's Management School (Taiwan).
